Ready for Anything

paratus-medical.png

The Latin word Paratus means “ready” or “prepared". Famously used in the motto "semper paratus"—“always ready”—this word captures the very heart of our mission: to be ready for any medical emergency, no matter the location, the patient, or the nature of the situation.

Every clinician has a case
that defines their career

Mine happened in my first year as an emergency physician, when I almost made a fatal drug dosing error with a newborn. I remember the moment vividly: I was calmly writing a note when a nurse burst in yelling “CODE PINK,” cradling a dying 2-day-old baby in his arms. Chaos. Confusion. Who was this baby? Where were the parents? What was happening?

That day, I learned a truth that shaped my path: in critical care, the biggest challenge isn’t the diagnosis—it’s the logistics. It’s executing hundreds of life-saving actions under intense pressure. It’s about staying focused while your brain, overwhelmed by stress, begins to fail at basic arithmetic and sequencing. We caught the error just in time, and the baby had an excellent outcome. But I was never the same.

I made a vow that day: I would do everything in my power to ensure that no provider—myself included—would face that kind of chaos unprepared.    So we started small, building a simple pediatric drug calculator called EZDrips. Then our community grew. In 2023, we launched EZResus, the world’s first mobile resuscitation assistant—designed to support any healthcare provider, with any patient, anywhere in the world.

The response was overwhelming. From hospitals to prehospital settings, from the mining industry to polar expeditions—and even in Space—our tools found traction far beyond what we imagined.    But something was still missing.    We realized that medical emergencies go well beyond resuscitation. From checking blood sugar in a disoriented diabetic patient to administering intramuscular epinephrine during anaphylaxis, these moments demand calm, fast, and accurate action. And we also recognized that the real opportunity wasn’t just helping doctors—but helping everyone involved in emergencies: paramedics, nurses, caregivers, first responders, and even civilians. Emergencies don’t wait for the ideal provider to show up.

That’s why we became PARATUS Medical. Our goal is bold: to build the world’s first complete emergency medical assistant. A tool that guides you through everything—from placing a central line or titrating an esmolol drip, to correctly gowning up or knowing how to perform CPR on a neonate.

By combining cutting-edge technology with a deep understanding of how humans think and act under pressure, we aim to revolutionize how the world handles medical emergencies. And as humanity pushes toward long-duration spaceflight, we see an extraordinary opportunity: the tools we build today for astronauts in deep space will become the foundation for better, more accessible care everywhere on Earth.

We are thrilled to embark on this journey with you.

Together, let’s redefine what it means to be ready for anything.
